Read below to learn more about the group and Rox.
The structure of the group will be discussion-style and will remain closed once the groups start. We will pick a topic each week to discuss; discussion questions will be created and sent out ahead of time for folks to sit with, and then we will spend time exploring together. There will always be a check-in and a check-out for each group, as well as an encouragement for folks to stim, regulate, and take care of themselves. Psychoeducation may also be provided to the group, as well as other therapeutic elements, even though the group will not be a formal therapy group. Participants are welcome to bring in other elements and requests for the space as we co-create boundaries and community guidelines.
A 12 week virtual peer support group meeting every Wednesday starting August 12th 7-8:30PM for Black and Autistic folks to explore the intersection of their neurodivergence & racial/ethnic identity. This is a space for Black folks to exhale from the outside pressures and explore what it means to them to be Black and also autistic. It is a chance to be in community, skip over the overexplaining the experience of being Black and get right into the intersection. It is a chance to be amongst folks that get it, no code switching, no language changes, no funny faces being made at you for the way your Black autistic traits show up. This will be a space that encourages you to show up authentically, honestly, and transparently with Rox, a Black autistic, queer, and trans, therapist.
