Cal Savonis

They/he • MS in Social Work

What are your specialties and areas of focus?

My name is Cal, and I’m a grief worker. To me, that means I not only work with those who have been impacted by the death of a loved one, but I also see grief as a lens that can help us understand our day-to-day endings, beginnings, and life transitions. That has only gotten more relevant as the systems of power around us threaten and harm marginalized folks more and more as eugenics and white supremacy become more mainstream.

What drew you to this work?

For as long as I remember, I’ve had a special interest in how people work and what makes each of us tick. I also have a deep respect for stories – how language can help us understand each other and bring us closer. I’m neurodivergent, trans, genderfluid, and queer.

Who are you excited to work with?

I'm excited to work with grief (physical death or other losses), trans and/or queer folks, neurodivergence, trauma, & those in polyamorous / non-monogamous relationships! While these areas of focus are a particular passion for me, my heart is for serving the community at large, and I can't wait to connect with the many value-aligned people that will find themselves drawn to The Love Practice

More about me

I grew up in Takoma Park, Maryland, where I played soccer at a travel level and sang for fun. After graduating with my undergraduate degree, I worked serving tables and barista-ing for 4 years, which taught me more about working with people than my schooling did. I graduated with a Master of Social Work, with a focus on clinical therapy, from Temple University in May 2026.
